Cedar Park Overhead Doors builds Custom Wood Garage Doors in our workshop in Cedar Park, Texas. After much research, we have decided that it is better for us to build our own Custom Wood Garage Doors. This allows us to ensure the quality and features of the doors that we sell. The Central Texas environment puts a lot of stress on a door and we feel that many door companies are not putting all the effort and materials required to build a quality door.
We believe that a custom wood door that is built on a commercial metal door is the most durable and cost effective method. This option involves using a galvanized steel 24 gauge commercial metal door and overlaying the wood onto the door. This door is strong enough to support the wood which will be mounted to it. The hardware provided with our door is all commercial grade. Most of the doors we build are covered with Western Red, kiln dried Cedar. This wood is very insect resistant, light weight, and cost effective. Of course a door can be built of other types of wood, but the weight of the door and the cost of the wood make it more challenging. Cedar is also better at holding stain and wood preservative and tends to last longer in the Texas heat.

Wood Door Options: A garage door can be finished with the "smooth" side of the wood out for a furniture finish look or the "rough" side out for a rustic finish.
Benefits of a wood Door.
- It looks great.
- It can be stained.
- It has a controlled and stable support system under the wood.

Facts about a Wood Door.
- The weight of a typical two-car garage door is 500 lbs.
- The wood has slightly different characteristics than the metal it is mounted to, which can cause the wood to split over time, although proper door construction can greatly reduce this problem.
- A larger motor is required for long-term operation of the larger sized garage doors. We recommend a 3/4 HP chain drive on doors wider than 10 Ft..
- It should to be re-sealed every two years (south facing). This means painting on another coat of sealer (not strip and sand).
Here is why you should have Cedar Park Overhead Doors build your wood door;
- We build our doors on 24 gauge commercial doors which are stronger and better able to support the extra weight of the wood on the door. Some of our competitors use flimsy 25 gauge residential doors as the base of the door.
- All of our doors use commercial RAM Track for structural support.
- On doors which are wider than 12 feet, we beef up the commercial door with Double end stiles and long stem ball bearing rollers to support the door weight when it is in the open or horizontal position. We also use commercial struts across each section of the door. We also use a solid steel torsion tube. 4 torsion springs are used and specially made for each door after it has been weighed to ensure the correct balance.
